The Arowana bench represents a distinguished collaboration between the esteemed brass furniture brand Masaya, the innovative surface design company Ausara Surface, and the renowned Apinowa Contemporary Jewelry. This project is undertaken with the support of the Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce.
Drawing inspiration from the Asian cultural reverence for the dragon fish, a symbol of good fortune and prosperity, the designers have masterfully integrated this belief into contemporary furniture design. The result is a functional yet spiritually significant piece: a grand, gleaming brass sculpture that serves as an elegant and powerful bench.
The meticulous creation process begins with crafting a wax model, followed by the employment of the lost wax casting technique to capture realistic anatomical details. The fish's body is artistically designed to twist as if swimming, with its fins and tail providing the necessary stability and support for seating. The eyes, crafted by Apinowa Contemporary Jewelry from sterling silver, are large and lifelike, reflecting light to give them a sparkling, animated appearance.
The artistic innovation lies in the fish scales developed in collaboration with Ausara Surface. These scales are made from hand-folded copper fabric, illuminated with fiery red hues. In this lively scene, the golden arowana is adorned with intricate scales, gracefully floating in a sea ablaze. As this creation emerges from the blending of texture and color, it reflects the merging of craftsmanship and imagination. This work, born from fire and metal, can captivate users with its enchanting beauty stemming from limitless creativity.
